Changing Ourselves To Become Better People

By David D. Moore

Appearances can be deceptive. Something flaunting as new might actually be old. New days are generally spent with the same people. Events happen to you all the time. They may seem new to you, but they might just be repetitions of an old pattern. This world of ours runs in cycles. Hence, names and places change over time but people remain the same. Every human in the world has the same trends of selfishness, greed, cruelty, compassion or kindness.

The past and the present exist only when compared to the present moment. They are what determine the mainstream of your emotions and your perceptions of the world.

As time flows, the era changes with it. So even though we claim to be living in an ultra-modern age, we are in fact showing the same reactions and emotions as people before us.

Human nature is not subject to change. This is proved by the way people respond to each other and act in response to events. Their dealings change, but the way their minds operate does not.

Anyway, people's hopes that we will eventually see a kinder world have not improved with time. Both as individuals and as nations, we have failed to increase our tolerance levels for each other though we have gained knowledge rapidly.

We treat each other the same, though we might react better to certain people. This law holds sway in relationships, families, towns, cities, nations and even the world. It is also true that a person is capable of doing anything in the right circumstances and at the right time.

But you must know that it is your attitude that determines, to quite an extent, how you would deal with someone and how they would respond to you. And there is the obvious fact that you can control your own reactions.

You are scared you might be rejected; you might not get what you want so you refuse to change, cling to your old beliefs, and the ego that keeps your mind from evolving. You know human nature is fundamental and unchangeable, so you might as well change yourself.
