Garden Wedding Ideas - How To Plan The Perfect Garden Wedding

By Lise Rina

Garden Weddings are beautiful and wonderfully unique and there are unique issues that can crop up merely because you are having an outdoor wedding. Take a look at the following garden wedding ideas that will make your wedding day a day to remember

Garden weddings are great but what if the weather turns bad. If you are having the wedding in the back yard make sure to rent a large tent where you can hold the reception. When the rain starts falling you can move everything under the tent. Be sure to organize a few of your guests to be able to help move reception tables and chairs out of the way to make room for the ceremony and then move them back should the weather turn bad. You can also contract with a local nearby church or school to have the ceremony there if the weather is not appropriate. Be sure to do this way ahead of time and then remind them once the day comes closer.

Decorating for a garden wedding can be elaborate or simple, but the most important part is that most of the decorations are already in place in the garden. Take a look around the area in which you are having the wedding with a critical eye. Are there things there you don't want your guests to see? Are the garbage cans hidden? Is the shed slightly unsightly? Make sure there is nothing there that you wouldn't't want to see in one of your wedding pictures and if there is there are a few things that can be done to hide them. Rent some large palms from a florist to hide things you might not want to be seen. Groupings of large plants can hide a multitude of sins. Decorate outbuildings with ribbons, streamers, and tulle or other material. This can hide any chipped and peeling paint or other imperfections.

Make sure the place where the actual ceremony will take place has a beautiful backdrop. A couple trees and a flower bed makes a great place or a place where a trellis covered in roses is appropriate. If the property has a stone wall use that as a backdrop or you can use an arbor. Some rental stores rent metal arches that can be easily decorated with silky or tulle fabric adorned with flowers. Make sure to add some ivy and other trailing greenery to make it look more natural and place a few bows on it. Use potted plants and colorful flowers to enhance the area as well. Always observe where the sun is in respect to where the ceremony will be so no one will be looking into the sun. Areas with many trees are perfect places to hold the ceremony.

Electricity may be necessary for a good wedding outdoors. Wedding musicians often require electric especially when the ceremony is outdoors. Sound disperses faster outside and amplification is necessary for any acoustic instrument. Electric pianos certainly need to be plugged in and if some one is going to sing it is advisable for them to use a microphone. The minister or priest would probably enjoy being amplified so they aren't't in competition with traffic noises and nature sounds. Any entertainment at the reception will need a great deal of outlets in order to plug their equipment in.

For a garden wedding one must decorate with tons of fresh flowers. If the flower beds seem a little sparse add containers of flowers. Neatly mulch the beds and manicure them well. You can use whimsical garden ornaments such as gazing balls or concrete or resin statues to make areas where people will want to sit and talk. Make sure to place a few benches or lawn chairs in these areas so guests can enjoy themselves before and after the ceremony.

String the trees with twinkle lights or you can string pastel paper lanterns from tree to tree. Collect wide mouth canning jars and fill three fourths full with colored sand or gravel and place a votive candle inside and light it to illumine pathways. A cute idea is to put a birdbath in a flowerbed near the receiving line and place a sign on it to throw a coin in and a make a wish for the newlyweds.

A garden wedding is a great way to get started in life with the person you love. Make it the most romantic and beautiful event of the year.
