Practicing Safe Sex To Avoid AIDS Or HIV

By Marcie C. Eskew

Sexually transmitted disease or STD has been an ongoing battle in every country. The consequences for not practicing safe sex are serious. Teen pregnancy, AIDS, and other life problems can happen if people are not aware of the benefits of safe sex. As they say, abstinence is the key to lowering your chances of having these problems including STD.

The first step is to identify a person who has STD. Most often, people with STDs are feverish and weak. Although they may look healthy but they may tell you that they are free of the disease, it is much better that you educate yourself in identifying a person with STD.

You should come into terms that by having sex with your current partner means you are having sex with the person she has had before. This also means that if your partner has had sex with someone having STD in the past, you are vulnerable to the disease too.

Honesty is the key to preventing the spread of sexually transmitted disease. Telling your partner that you had one will prevent you from acquiring it and spreading it. It is much better that you open up rather than keep it and have both of you suffer the same problem.

Always have yourself and your partner checked for any blood born disease that can be transmitted through sexual contact. Diseases like hepatitis B and HIV can be transmitted through such act.

Condoms are the best choice for prevention. If you have been tested and are waiting for the result, it is much better that you use condoms until the results are back.

Always be on the lookout for sores and redness in the genital area of your partner or even yourself. If you feel some itchiness and redness on your genital area then have yourself checked.

The key to stopping STD is not through drugs or any medication. It is all about proper education. Your local government might have programs for safe sex. Do try to get involved.
