Good Guys Win the Dating Game

By Mike Morton

Getting a girl to go out with you is stressful already, but planning your date night? Your stress levels may shoot up to an all time high! Don't worry. With a little work on your communication skills, you can have a night you and your date won't forget.

Well, you can start by making improvements on your communication skill. Be watchful on body language. Remember that signals are sometimes clearer than words. Try to establish a rapport with your date right on the first meeting. But since this isn't always very easy (unless you are extremely charismatic), try to at least connect with your date by keeping the discussion light and spontaneous.

When talking to her, maintain eye contact. Constant gazing around the room could make you look distracted, inattentive, or worse, bored. Also, as a rule, never ogle at other women during your date. The objective of the night is to get to know her more. This is your chance (which can be your last, mind you), so pay close attention.

The kind of questions you ask can sometimes make or break your date night. Ask questions that will make her give lengthy answers as opposed to just a 'yes' or 'no.' Questions like 'What do you do at work?' or 'How often do you come here?' will get your interaction off to a good start. Listen as good as you talk, for good conversation skills involve listening as well as talking.

Think about topics that you'd want to talk about in advance. Music is a universal topic and a safe one at that. Everyone has a favorite song or singer. Ask her what she's currently listening to, or which artist is her favorite.

Like in any getting-to-know-you conversation, talking about hobbies is often the most important and the most enjoyable part in a date. Try asking her what she usually does during her spare time. Be it on travel, photography or cooking, you'll almost always discover a common interest with her.

Talk about pets, if she has one. People tend to get really animated when talking about pets, so this one way to get her to talk more and put her at ease. If she doesn't have one, ask why. This way, you'll be able to keep the conversation smooth-flowing.

Keep the date enjoyable by talking about stuff that both of you like. This way, you'll have a more relaxed time. This would make you less nervous and, at the same time, allow you to be yourself while enjoying the night.
