By Steve Steiner

Dealing with depression after breaking up is difficult. It's tough to realize that she is not going out with now and you have been left heart broken. You can deal with depression after the break up in various ways. It's going to take some time to follow these steps and follow through with them but you will get there in the end.

Make sure you don't contact her. The best thing you can do initially is to not contact her at all. You will feel more depressed if you do contact her. Always keep in mind that when trying to cope with depression after breaking up, you should try not to see that person that made you depressed in the first place.

Try to chuck away items that she may have given you or any photographs featuring the two of you as a couple. If you find you are unable to do this then at least hide them away somewhere so they are out of sight. You should throw these things or put them out of sight as otherwise they will keep triggering your memories of her. If there are any items left then send them on to her or get someone you trust to drop them off. Make sure you don't go round there and give her those outstanding items.

One of the key factors when dealing with depression after breaking up is to release your emotions. It's a myth that men don't cry. Either cry out the depression or write it down in your diary. If you don't keep your feelings bottled up then you feel so much better about yourself. Release your feelings rather than keeping them stored up as that isn't good for you.

Make sure that you go out and do things that you love to do. Start a new interest or participate in sports. The idea is to take your mind off the break up. It's extremely important to focus on something else rather than the break-up. If you really want to take your mind off the break up fully then taking up a sport to challenge every aspect of yourself is potentially the perfect thing to do.

Try to visit family and catch up with your friends. Get out and meet up with new people. There's little point in sitting alone and dwelling on things as this will only serve to make the depression worse. You could always go out and have fun somewhere with your mates. I'm sure your family would love to see you so why not go and see them? You will be strengthening your bond with your family by visiting and also helping yourself by being around people who care about your well being. All of these are great tips when coping with depression after breaking up.

If you have a positive attitude on life then you will have more chance of enjoying the future. It's worth noting that even though you have broken up at your ex-girlfriend's choice, your life is far from over. It's important to keep in mind that she is definitely not the only woman out there even though it might feel like it right now. There's every chance after a break up that you can find somebody else to share your love with.

These guidelines will help you learn to deal with depression following a painful break up. You will be able to move forward with your life but it will take a bit of time to heal completely. You should always try to discover the cause of the break up, even if the relationship was not great all the time.
