The basis of breeding a line of animals is to improve each generation. It's important to propagate the personality of the breed as well as making sure they are healthy and move the line forward. Sometimes you will have to make a tough decision about a cat that doesn't breed well for the line.

The best way to make sure your breeding is on par is to show your cats. At the show you can compare your prize to the other cats on show. It doesn't have to be about getting a first place, though this would be nice, it is about winning enough places to let you know how good your practices are working out.

Expect to keep the kittens through the age for spaying and neutering. By fixing the kittens early you can control accidental pregnancies. Additionally, you are protecting your investment in time, money, and energy by stopping people who think they will breed a litter or two for some money.
