It Really Doesn't Have To Be That Hard To Cope With Heartbreak

By Sarah Scott

Everybody has to deal with heartbreak at some point in their lives. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone that hasn't experienced heartbreak these days. When you have a broken heart, your life just seems to come to a screeching halt and you just can't seem to move forward with anything. It may take a bit of time to heal, but sooner or later you will come to cope with your heartbreak and get on with things.

One of the most important things you can do when dealing with a broken heart is to distance yourself from your ex. Try to avoid any of his usual places to hang out so that you don't have to run into him. You might need to steer clear of some of your own favorite places for a few weeks to do this, but it really is best to avoid running into him. It will just deepen the wounds if you see him now and you'll find yourself overanalysing everything he says and does.

Remove anything and everything that you have that reminds you of him. Try to put it out of sight if you can't bear to throw it out. By removing all of these things from your life, you'll find that you will recover from the break-up faster and you won't get stuck thinking about your ex as much.

Be sure that you handle your emotions the right way--in a healthy way. It is far better to let things out by exercising or taking up a hobby, rather than sitting around and dwelling on things. Taking your mind off of all the pain and nasty emotions you're feeling will help time pass more easily and before you know it you'll start to feel better about life again.

Make sure you are active in your life. It's important to do as much as possible like joining a community group or taking a class at college. If you concentrate your mind on something else other than the break up you will recover more quickly. The great thing is you will also get to learn a new skill or meet new people that might not have ever met.

Be sure that you look after yourself. By improving your outward appearance then you will make everything seem a little more rosy even if it's not deep down. It is too easy to neglect yourself when things get bad. Therefore, go out and pamper yourself if you need to make yourself better. Make sure you do things that will improve your self confidence. It's important to take things in stages when coping with this pain. Taking things a step at time can help turn your life around.

Put your attention on the future. Now that you have some extra time on your hands you will find you are able to do much more. For instance, if you've always want to get away from everything and go traveling then now is the time. Start doing things that you never could when you were in a relationship. Now is your big chance to do things you've never had any real opportunity to do like learning a new language or giving back to your community through volunteer work.

So give some thought to what I've shared with you here and you might just discover that getting dumped has opened up many new possibilities to you. By making sure you are busy and getting on with your life rather than dwelling in the past you should be able to deal with the pain a lot easier and you can even use this as a chance to start over fresh. Make sure you allow yourself the chance to grow stronger with this new start to your life. Always try to make sure that you still live your life as you want to even if you have just had your heart broken.
