Lovely Wedding Bands A Token Of Love And Commitment Between Couples From Beginning Of Time

By Fersch Weiban

Since time immemorial wedding bands have been exchanged at marriage ceremonies. Regardless of what these rings were made of, the grass, beads, metal or other substances were treasured and formed an integral part of the actual ceremony.

Long ago prices and worth of a ring would be a direct reflection on the family wealth and status in society. There are however numerous affordable rings being produced in vast quantities nowadays and people of all walks of life can now purchase these. The most preferred metals still remain silver, gold, titanium and sterling silver with precious stones as embellishment.

These wedding bands were originally used as a sign of bestowing wealth on the bride and not only as a sign of love and commitment to one another. In old church prayer books the groom had to say "with this ring I thee wed" and follow-up with "this gold and silver I thee give" and present the bride with a purse of silver and gold.

Today wedding bands are a token of love between two people and no longer a contract between families or countries forming allegiance as in ancient times. A person will therefore find that it is very much the couple's prerogative as to what they choose and traditionally it is for the groom to foot the bill. There are still couples that use family heirloom rings either in original settings or in a new design incorporating the gemstones.

Online shopping has opened up a world of choices for bridal couples. They are now able to access beautiful designs from anywhere around the globe and whether it is a modern, cultural or traditional ring they are looking for there is something for everyone to buy. Many times when someone famous marries their rings are copied and produced for their many followers and fans to buy and wear.

Nowadays couples are purchasing similar designs in sets and having special love notes engraved inside the ring. Many ancient Egyptian and Celtic designs are being resurrected and chosen by numerous couples nowadays. Budget is an important factor in any purchase but with these many lesser expensive rings being made today everyone can have the rings they have always wanted.

Choosing these rings is a very personal event and it is one of the most important purchases people may make in their lifetime. Whatever designs they may decide on these circles of eternal love and commitment represented by wedding bands will surely have great significance and be treasured by their recipients.
