The Four Bible Lessons about Friendships

By Josh Hardy

The Bible is a word of God and provides way in each and every part of life. Friendship isn't an exception to this. God uses the Bible to present us direction in selecting friends and how to handle friends. The next five lessons on friendship come from the Bible. Give consideration to if you are following these lessons in your present relationship along with your friends or perhaps if you have an area that really needs change.

Help make God Your Best Friend

James 4:8 Draw very near to God, and He will draw very near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and cleanse your hearts, you double-minded. God should always be our best friend. As we draw next to God he can help guide us from the trials of life. God really wants to be your friend. Have you asked Him? Would you communicate with Him just like a friend? I motivate someone to pray to God just as he was your best friend and show to Him what is going on in your life.

You should not Make Friends with "Bad Company"

1 Corinthians 15:33 Don't be misled: "Bad company wrecks great morals." Do you have friends of yours that you understand can be harmful for you personally? Do they really entice you to definitely fall into some form of sin. These represent the friends the Bible cautions us to stay away from. We're to discuss our faith along with them although not to form the sort of friendship where they affect the decision making within our lives.

Treat Your Friends as You Want Treated- Golden Rule

Luke 6:31 So when you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. How are you treating your friends? Do you have certain friends that you choose to take advantage of their kindness by trying to get just as much out of the relationship as you possibly can as opposed to give to the relationship? It becomes an effortless trap to get caught in. Make sure to deal with your friends just like you would want them to take care of you.

Show Your Friends Love

Romans 12:10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Out do each other in expressing recognition. The Bible discusses the need for love over and over. Are you showing enough love in your friendships? Attempt to out do each other in showing honor by loving your friend.
