Solitaire Engagement Ring: The Ultimate Gift For The Perfect Wife

By William Howard Holman

Traditionally a marriage begins when the man gets down on one knee and asks the woman he loves to marry and spend the rest of her life with him. Nobody needs to be told that this is the most important moment in most people's lives and everything should be just right when you finally pluck up the courage to pop the question and hopefully begin a new chapter in your lives together. A solitaire engagement ring is as important as a girl in this mission.

Of course people are forever inventing exciting ways to ask people to marry them such as hiring violinists and opera singers, taking her to Venice and proposing on a gondola, sneaking into her room like star-crossed high school lovers. Whatever the methods, the idea is to end up with a beautiful ring on the beautiful girls beautiful finger, it's a very important part of marriage.

Choosing the right ring is like a North Korean minefield, if it is too cheap she will think you are a loser, if it is too expensive she will feel like a prostitute, too colorful and she may suspect that you are gay, you can never be too careful with these things.

For most men who are not rappers, it will be the most important piece of jewelry they will buy in their entire lives, the pressure to get it right is immense. You may only get one chance in your whole life to ask her to marry, so for just one time everything has to be absolutely perfect, especially the engagement ring.

Sometimes it pays not to mess with traditions by trying to be cool or original, and choosing the right wedding proposal is one of those times. Although it may seem like a good idea to find something a bit more personal and unique than a diamond on a gold band, here you are partaking a tradition going back thousands of years and to mess with it may come across as disrespect or arrogance to your betrothed. In this case the standard option is the only sensible one.

The best, and in truth the only choice is to get her a solitaire engagement ring. Solitaire refers to the single diamond mounted on the ring, shining like the sun and indestructible like the love you two share. The solitaire ring is now a time honored tradition in proposals throughout the world, and although some rules are made to be broken, this is one that really should be observed, if it isn't broke, don't fix it as the old saying goes.

By far and away the most popular way to attach the diamond to the ring is the Tiffany mount, the 6 taloned claw that holds the diamond to the band. First seen in the late 19th century developed by the still famous jewelers, this quickly became the standard and now virtually all engagement rings use this fitting. Royal weddings, celebrity weddings, billionaires right down to the humble man in the street, the six taloned Tiffany mount is what keeps the diamond fixed to the band like the air of love to the couple.

Maybe you think that it would be too expensive, or maybe just too obvious, but the truth is that you can't take chances with something like this, and a solitaire engagement ring is really the only way to go.
