Teddy Bear Goldendoodles: Why Would You Choose One For Your Family

By Velma Joseph

Teddy bear goldendoodles are a wonderful breed of dog that is very affectionate and intelligent. These two traits alone might encourage you to choose one. But what truly endears these puppies to their owners is their adorable appearance. You might choose one to become part of your family for these reasons and a few more.

Breeders mixed two very friendly dog breeds together to get these teddy bears. They are English Golden Retrievers and Poodles joined together in a happy blend. You can see how the two names merged to become one. But the teddy bear part of the name has to do with their heads. The preferred head shape resembles a toy teddy bear, with a definite square or boxy appearance.

Because English golden dogs are understood to be easy in nature and calm tempered, they are more often used to breed the doodles than American golden retrievers. Their pleasant personalities make them top favorites with many families. Some say that they are also less likely to cause allergy sufferers discomfort. Breeders note that their fur sheds less than other dogs.

There are several color varieties for this breed. Ultra cream doodles are a very light white. Champagne puppies have a soft tan with cream tones mixed in. Apricot has a bit of an orange tint to the fur. Red takes on an even darker orange tinge, with fur that is similar to average red hair on humans. Chocolate dogs have a rich, warm brown color. Blacks are very similar to dark charcoal gray. Black and white parti have irregular black fur patches on very white fur. Caramel and tan parti have light tan patches mixed with cream fur. Brown pigmentation have adorable brown button noses and variations of tan and cream fur. Rare colors show up as silver, tri-colored phantom, wookie and wookie parti, to name a few breeder specialties.

There are several coat varieties, too. These dogs are bred for curly, wavy, shaggy, loose and straight fur, though the straight coats are generally not included as teddy bears. Each coat type needs a lot of daily brushing. The areas around the ears, eyes, and head generally are tightly curled and need extra attention to keep the fur untangled. As the puppies grow into adulthood, their coats will grow full and fluffy.

You will want to prepare for your puppy to come home. Breeders do provide initial vaccinations and training, but you will need to schedule vet visits and establish a training routine for your own home. These puppies enjoy time with you, and that is one top reason for including them in your family anyway. Some extra attention will also be spent on the right foods and sleeping area for your new puppy. Many will come crate and potty trained, but you will need to secure your own plan once puppy arrives.

Teddy bear goldendoodles have received top accolades as working dogs. They participate as police and search dogs. And they have excellent records as service, guide, therapy and assistance dogs for people who need them. Respected for these credentials, you can imagine how wonderful they will be with your family. Their intelligence and sensitive nature enable them to be lovely companions in many homes. Read more about: teddy bear goldendoodles
