Wedding Rings - Information And Advice

By Mark Walters

There are lots of different styles of wedding ring but it is certainly safe to say that some are more popular than others. We've put together this guide to popular styles of wedding rings to give you a better idea about some of the best-loved options. When it comes to the metal the wedding ring is made out of, the most traditional option is gold. Typically this will be yellow gold, but white gold is increasingly popular so it's worth checking them both out.

You aren't just limited to gold wedding rings, though. For an alternative modern option, then you could check out titanium rings. These are great for rings that are meant to last a lifetime as they are extremely durable. Their lovely silver-grey color is also very appealing for a wedding ring. Another popular metal option is platinum. This is often more expensive than gold rings as it is a rarer metal, but it's gorgeous shiny silver color more than makes up for the price difference.

When it comes to the shape of the wedding ring, a lot of people like to base their choice on their engagement ring. That is to say, a lot of engagement rings feature stones that jut out over the top of the band and so people choose wedding rings that will fit comfortably over the top of them. This can be done by getting a jeweler to reshape your ring or you can also find matching sets of engagement and wedding rings that go nicely together.

Simple, plain bands are also a very popular choice when it comes to the shape of the wedding ring and these are seen as a very traditional option. You can cater to different preferences with the choices available here, but typically you can expect to find curved wedding bands with a straight edge. This is so they have a nice feel to them, reflect the light and can be worn comfortably. Often, brides and grooms choose similar styles so they can match.

While wedding rings are usually plain you can also get some lovely options that have jewels set into them. These will usually be discreetly set into the band so it sparkles gently, but you can also find some with bigger gems available. Diamonds are the most popular choice but other stones such as emeralds and sapphires are also popular. These are particularly popular with women who have chosen not to have an engagement ring and they make for a great modern choice.
