What to Expect When Doing Beach Wedding Photography

By Joe Sim

Summer season for wedding planners means organizing weddings on the beach. But if you're into destination weddings, you can get the beach wedding of your dreams all year round in a tropical country. What is it with beach weddings that people find irresistible? Beach weddings can be considered a major theme in the wedding planning industry. Romance is abundant on the beach, especially if the area is secluded. The serenity of the seashore provides a great backdrop for romantic weddings. Any couple would want a beach wedding because of these reasons.

But a beach wedding can be difficult to set up on so many levels. One major challenge is getting the best photographs for your beach wedding.

A professional photographer is needed to make sure that all the photographs are taken in a professional way.

Climate Changes

Beach weather can be quite unpredictable. Although a portrait of the just-married couple on the beach can be romantic, the photographer should consider the shadows, the light source and the amount of light. Ideally, a sun setting over the water is the perfect backdrop for a beach wedding photograph.

But what if the sun is being covered by clouds? The photographer should be ready with his own source of light just in case.

You should also keep an eye out for gusts of wind during the photo session. You don't want photos wherein the hair of the bride is covering half of her face because of the wind. Worse, the wind could lift the skirts of the women in the photo. For your photoshoots on the beach, you can opt to take photos away from the shoreline and beside wind breakers like hedges or trees.

Proper Timing

Usually, weather stations tell you what time low tide will come during the day. During low tide, you can see the seashore and the couple can pose on the beach. But the lowest tide can only last for a few minutes to a few hours. You as the photographer should also herd the people toward the best spot on the beach to take photographs. Always make sure that the horizon features something interesting when choosing a shot for the wedding couple.

Photography Needs

Make sure your equipment is ready for the beach scene. Lens covers will protect your lenses from the sand. Sand can become your major enemy in a beach wedding photo shoot because it can be abrasive. You also need to make sure your bags or pockets are water tight.
