Wedding Favors And How They Came To Be

By Johannne Wiliamson

Handing out wedding favors is a time honored tradition. 17th century newlyweds that come from rich families typically send their guests off with bonbonnieres. Bonbonnieres usually contain delicate confections or candied almonds. These candied almonds are the precursors of the Jordan almonds we have today. Traditionally, these bonbonnieres contain five candied almonds to represent five wishes for the new couple, namely health, wealth, happiness, children and a long life together.

The bonbonniere itself is quite ornate and therefore valuable. The wedding favors express the couple's gratitude for their guests. The wedding favors are a tangible thank you for those who attended the couple's wedding. The brides and grooms of today are very innovative and creative. The tokens for guests, the color motif, and the choice of location all show a nuance of the couple's personality. These elements, especially the favors, should be cohesive to the overall theme. That is, if the couple decides to go for a ceremony with a rustic and country feel, handing out Country-style wedding favors would be most suitable. Unforgettable theme weddings are becoming all the rage these days.

These days, lovers tend to gravitate towards beach or country style weddings because they have this particular charm about them. When deciding on your wedding theme, you and your partner's preferences should be taken into consideration. The color motif should be something both of you are comfortable with. Wedding preparations are also contingent upon how much you are willing to spend as a couple.

For the budget conscious couple, going for a rustic or country theme is a good option. Instead of spending too much on unnecessary decorations, couples can set aside more time and money to make or buy personalized mementos. The selection for country wedding favors is quite diverse and are widely available. These can include among others soaps and candles that are shaped from horseshoe moulds, wooden treasure boxes, or popular country treats placed inside customized containers.

While the options are limitless, these wedding favors should showcase both you and your partner's personalities. Lastly, these giveaways should effectively communicate the newlywed's deep sense of appreciation.
