How to Get the Same Wedding For Less

By Melanie Stolker

You have probably had a quick look around about how much your perfect wedding is likely to cost and had to take a step backwards. The cost of a wedding needs to fit inside a budget, just as any other financial commitments do. If you stretch yourselves too much it can end up causing you financial problems for years to come.

When you first decide to get married, don't just think about the concept of a wedding you have dreamed of. Sit down with those who are responsible for paying the cost of the wedding and work out how much can be afforded. This has to be done before anything else. Work the other way around and you will end up with a figure much higher than can be afforded.
Set your budget and agree upon it with all concerned. Now you know exactly how much you have to spend and can arrange and plan it accordingly. Work out things you simply just must have, or have always wanted. These are therefore your priorities. Find out the cost of the things on your priority list and deduct them from your budget, so you left with a figure you can spend on other items.

Your priority items are personal and will be different for each couple getting married. You may have always promised yourself a fairy-tale style dress, or maybe you have always had a particular venue in mind. If so then fine go for them, but now you need to cut down on other things so compensate and keep within your budget.

Look on your list of things you need to arrange. There will be several things you can cut down on without then having any effect on your wedding day. For example, do you really need that expensive photographer that wants $2,000? You probably have a friend or family member that does photography as a hobby and would willingly take your photos, and then all you need to do is pay for the film and getting the photo's printed. Even printing can be done perfectly well at home, if you, or someone else has a good quality printer. After all, most cameras are digital and can link directly to a computer. All you need to do is purchase the correct photo paper and make sure you have plenty of ink and you have saved a lot of dollars.

Think about the invitations. Do you really need to spend hundreds of dollars on getting them professionally printed? Your guests are coming to your wedding to celebrate with you, not study a wedding invitation. They just need to know the details about the time and date and this can easily be handwritten on pre-printed invitations. It also makes your invitations more personal. In any case they all get thrown in the trash after the wedding so what a waste of money that could be spent on more important things.

These are just a few of the many things you can do to get the same wedding you want, but for less money.
