Survive the Long Distance Relationship - Five Tips to Overcome Loneliness

By Belle Smith

The reason why couples feel so lonely when they're miles apart is they assume distance breaks the world into pieces. They dwell on nostalgia so much they set aside those things that draw a smile on their face. All they remember are those merry moments they shared together. They forget that asking for the something not possible only leads to frustration.

To get over the loneliness long distance love affairs bring, read the five excellent tips stated below.

Communicate regularly.

In a high tech world, you can't accuse distance for hindering your communication with your partner. In the present generation, the world is not as huge as it was before. Unless you live in a super remote area, Internet access is readily available. Currently, long distance calls are now affordable with instant messaging software. Efficiency is now a matter of computer icons and buttons.

Enjoy your "Me Time"

Being away from your partner gives you time to focus on yourself and do the things you want to become a better person. Self-development is your inalienable responsibility. It goes with you anytime and anywhere. If loneliness hinders you from starting a single thing, here's the inspiration trick. Don't do it just for your own good. He/She will be definitely proud of who you'll become.

Learn something new.

Develop a new hobby or sport. Immerse in a cultural activity in your place. Sign up for a blog. All of these ideas can be a healthy distraction. Living a lonely life can add more wrinkles on your forehead faster. So try something new that will sharpen your cognitive or psychomotor skills. It indirectly affects your relationship in a positive way because you get good energy by doing so. This energy will save you from too much worrying.

Go out and breathe.

Instead of waiting for your partner to show up on Skype earlier than scheduled, go out and look around you. If you live in the countryside, notice how the leaves sway or how the cicadas cry in the trees. When you're residing in a city, you'll be amazed at how roofs protect people from the scorching sun. When you go out and be more observant, you'll have your own insights that are worth sharing with your partner.

Be faithful.

Temptations are harder to resist when you and your lover are oceans apart. For some, it's easy to go on a date because it's easy to deny the betrayal. Other people say their loneliness pushes them to quit the relationship and focus on who they're with at the moment. The choice to remain faithful or not actually depends on your values. If you truly treasure your partner, you will remain loyal to him/her no matter what.

Having a long distance relationship set-up is difficult. But keep in mind that hard situations can teach you a lot. In fact, they give you more chances to be stronger and wiser. This is hard to realize when you're still along the way and there are yet issues to attend to. Gratefulness will only spring after overcoming all the obstacles you've been through.
