Wedding Planning Made Simple - 5 Tips For Small Budget Weddings

By Sean T Saunders

Planning a wedding party on a small budget doesn't suggest everything has to be uninteresting nor does it mean it must be unsophisticated. Actually, there isn't any evidence that tossing massive piles of money at your wedding will make it any more pleasant than not doing so. Having said that, don't let the notion of planning your wedding on a small budget get you down -- there are several ways to save while still ensuring an exciting & fulfilling experience for you and your guests.

1. Put a Lock on Your Guest List. More people means more food, much more drinks, more space (a lot more decorations as a result), more cake, far more tables, additional chairs, much more servers, and more of EVERYTHING ELSE. Invite only whom you must invite; not the entire list of individuals the two of you have ever had a conversation with. Remember, your planning a wedding on a small budget -- I.E. small budget equals small invite list.

2. Wedding Party Food: Do NOT do a sit-down dinner with servers and cleaners -- it's financial suicide, particularly when setting up a wedding on a small budget. Take the self serve buffet path for immense savings. Pick out a variety of inexpensive, yet scrumptious foods for the buffet and your guests will enjoy it far more. Truthfully, what person doesn't love a good wedding reception buffet?

3. Decorate By Yourself. Specialized decorators can certainly do a nice job, but almost everything that they could do you can do. Buy the wedding materials in bulk, look up some wedding decoration ideas online, and then just plan it out. It isn't nearly as difficult as it seems. Just visualize the cash you'll save through using your own distinctive ideas when planning your wedding on a small budget.

4. Don't spend money on cut flowers (specifically those not in season). Yes, they are certainly beautiful and make everything appear a tad bit more lively. However, their cost ALONE is tremendous. Rather, consider using flowering potted plants. With ribbons and raffia tied to them, you can save a bunch of money and still have gorgeous flowers for the reception.

5. No Open Bar. It's not recommended for weddings on a small budget, no matter what you may have read. An open bar is more costly, plus it encourages individuals to get really drunk really fast -- something you do not need. Instead, think about buying beer, wine beverages, champagne, and a lot of nonalcoholic beverages in bulk. By shopping around, you should be able to dig up some great deals. Did you know you could serve the refreshments yourself (like the buffet) for even higher savings?
