Some Ways To Maintain Strong Communication With Your Grandchildren

By Joseph G. Johnson

Grandparents can keep in touch with their school age grandchild in so many ways.

1. Since your child is busy establishing their lives and raising children, you can always offer to lend a hand whether they are still babies or your grandchild is already in school. It is different having one's own parent looking out on your child while you are at work. As grandparents, you can either help your grandchild with their homework or you can fix them snacks when they come home from school.

2. If you live far, you can send your grandchild a letter or card to let them know how much you are thinking of them and miss them.

3) It would be great to be part of your grandchild's every sporting event. Sometimes their parents will forget to notify you, so you need to remind them from time to time if there are any activities in school so you can also be a part of it.

4) Calling is one of the best forms of communication especially if you live far and cannot visit them as often as you can. Although some older grandchildren would misunderstand the constant call to be interfering, you can do this once in awhile.

5. You can also ask your child to hook up a webcam to their computer so it will allow you to video chat as often as you want. Although it is still best to keep it short and brief, the most important thing is that you get to see and talk to them.

Every grandparent would attest that their grandchildren are special and given the chance, they would always want to keep in touch. You are the only person who can share with them how they were when they were little and also about their parents. This information is special and they will definitely cherish it.

Hopefully, all grandparents get to see and communicate with their grandchildren as often as they can. They share a special bond after all.
