Tips For Buying Romantic Jewelry

By Anne Harvester

Women love being doted upon and most think that receiving romantic jewelry is a wonderful way for their partner to show affection. There are so many styles and options to choose from. Shopping for jewelry that she will love can be a bit challenging, so keep the following tips in mind.

Before buying, get an idea of what the recipient will think is nice. Consider her style, such as whether she prefers gold or silver, outrageous or discreet. Think about the jewelry she already wears to get an idea of what she might like. While the sentiment is sure to be appreciated, she might not find it quite as romantic if she thinks the necklace is ugly.

Diamonds are fantastic in the romance department. They are gorgeous and valuable, and to women they symbolize an important aspect of relationships: commitment. They are also very expensive. Depending on size, style, and quality, diamonds can be found for reasonable prices at places like pawn shops or internet dealers. Research well before buying so that the best deals can be found.

Cubic zirconium jewelry can be just as beautiful as real diamonds for just a portion of the cost. Other precious gems such as sapphires, rubies, and emeralds are available in simulated styles as well. Most people cannot tell the difference between the simulated stones and those found in nature just by looking. Lab-created stones can save quite a bit of money and come in many shades of red and pink, the colors often associated with love.

Jewelry that has been in the family for generations can make a very romantic gift. Heirlooms such as lockets are meaningful and were once very popular. Place a photo, a lock of hair, or dried flowers inside. Antique watches, necklaces, or earrings are also very special.

The heart is an age-old symbol of love that has been modernized and stylized in all types of jewelry. Give a lover this sign in precious gems or metals as a sweet gift. But beware, some women find hearts too silly or girlish so be sure to have an idea of her opinion on the matter.

Wedding and engagement rings are incredibly romantic, but rings in general are viewed as romantic symbols of unending love. Bands of gold, silver, or precious metals such as platinum can be engraved with meaningful phrases and dates. Traditional Irish Claddagh rings are popular in the US these days as promise rings or as symbols of Celtic heritage.

Truly unique pieces can be custom created for those who cannot find something appropriate in stores. Having a lovely accessory created specifically for her is a romantic gesture for any woman. Also do not be afraid to consider something besides the standard necklace or ring. Brooches can make nice presents, as can bracelets or anklets. Romantic jewelry does not have to be terribly expensive. Again, do not forget her preferences. This is more important than the cost of the jewelry. If she does not like the item, she may not wear it no matter how touched she may be at receiving the gift.
