Tips On First Date Conversation Starters

By Angelique Larsen

Going on dates can be exciting as well as anxiety-generating. Especially initial dates, as these have the potential to spoil or secure future romantic outings. Hence first date conversation starters are important. For folk having trouble with good topics for the occasion here are some helpful tips.

Generally speaking it's important to show an interest in wanting to know more about another person. This doesn't mean bombarding someone with questions of a personal nature however. Choosing topics that are broad are usually preferable. These could entail questions about an individual's favorite places, interests, or movies and books that are fascinating.

It's also important to listen out for new topics someone introduces when discussing something else. These are subtle indicators of the kinds of things that interest people. It would then be useful to pursue these, even if it means changing topics in new directions.

Off-beat, humorous questions and topics are great for creating a light sociable mood, and helps to put persons at ease. And this is important. One way to ensure follow-up dates is through generating a sense of ease and comfort in one's companion.

Asking somebody about the silliest thing the person has ever done for example is a great way to create an easy-going atmosphere. But also be prepared to share the same type of information about oneself. These are questions that show one can laugh at oneself, and this is good in loosening any stiffness in the atmosphere.

It's always better to ask questions that are open-ended, and keeping the ones merely eliciting a yes-no response at a minimum. It would also be great if one could try these first date conversation starters on a friend to gauge the effect. This might be good for the confidence as well as helping to secure similar future outings.
